Dealer charging me $4000 for vct solenoid repair?

2019 Ford F150 3.5eb auto. 73,500 miles.

Hi Scotty, I have a intermittent check engine light on a '19 Ford F150 and the OBDII reads codes P0018 and P0021. Took it to the dealer and asked employees about it and they said the vct solenoid needed to be replaced (didn't specify which ones). They quoted more than $4000 in which I thought was just a replacement for the vct cylinder but they're stating many things need to be done such as remove the engine, change the hoses, etc. Is this true? $4000 reaches the cost of a new engine for some cars and it shocks me it's that high.

Also, they stated this was not under any recall for my truck.

Another stealership earns its wings.

They didn't earn those wings, they stole them!

Down here we call that " THE BIG SCREW"

Here is a video for another year:

Dude, it reminds me of getting work done in my BMW. Anything internal to the engine, a ton of stuff needs to come of before getting to the actual solenoids. Which only adds up the labor charge.

Dealer pricing was outrageous. It took mine to an Indy and got it done for ¼ to ⅓ of the price the dealer was charging.

Get a second opinion and pricing from a trusted independent mechanic. That’s just crazy pricing the dealer is charging. .

you have to realise that dealers don't mess around. They replace everything they touch. They don't repair things, and they don't reuse parts.

If I were you I would read the fine print on your warranty, and don't believe a word they tell you.

NEVER go to a dealer for anything.

They're called stealerships. and known for lying. If they tell me it's December 21st today I won't believe them before I go check my calendar. This is the extent to which I won't trust them. So first of all have a trusted independent mechanic check it for you to see if such repair is needed and if yes have your own mechanic change it.

I would never go to a stealer. My pipe from gas filler to gas tank rotted went to auto Parts store they told me it was dealer part. I went to the dealer they wanted 75 dollars for the pipe. I are you crazy and told them I will go to lowes and by a piece of pipe and use my pipe bender to make pipe. Cost me 15 dollars.

$75 dollars sounds pretty reasonable

Bye bye 2019 F 150.  Or you might luck out with the Indy.
