So I finally got the motor mounts installed. The engine has a new pair of ears. Only a slight dent in the oil pan from jacking but otherwise looks decent. Nice and quiet but still very hard to start if it's been driven. Takes 10 turnovers to light up. Sometimes now it's even hard to start when cold. Since taking the left ear off required removing the starter wire I decided to clean the metal on it with some alcohol. But I guess I was wondering if starter even has anything to do with the hot difficult starts. My fuel data shows as much as negative 12% at least when slowing down indicating a rich condition. Always negative fuel trim. And there's a tap sound like a lifter which is what I thought it was but maybe it's a bad fuel injector? I'm going to clean the ground wire on the starter today when I change my high pressure steering hose and I'll clean the ignition port wire on the starter. But if it's not starting up any easier when driven is that bad fuel injectors? Or do I need to buy a new starter since I did find a presence of oil from a previous leak and may even be power steering fluid on it? Do starters always have trouble starting when soiled badly by leaks or do they only have trouble starting hot?
You left out a few details.

So it's a 2000 S10 Chevrolet pickup. Has 175,000 mi. I didn't have any codes from my scan tool. I did clean the throttle plate due to a video you'd had out recently about bad fuel data when there are no codes. It's an automatic transmission. The engine is a 2.2 l which makes it nice because there's only exhaust on one side and intake on the other. Wish they had put the starter on the intake side but they didn't and it runs a good 200 and some degrees after the vehicle's been driven you know being it has no heat shield covering it. I've had this truck for years. And I always maintain it well. That means even changing the transmission fluid every 30 or 40,000 mi. Using synthetic motor oil too.

Oh I forgot to mention one other thing. Sometimes I smell gasoline out of the tailpipe or from somewhere.
I really hope it's not fuel injectors because I would have to buy some really good quality fuel injectors due to their location. I can't take a chance on warranty if I buy cheap in they don't last. Probably got to buy an intake gasket too because I have to take the manifold off. I'm going to need a gasket for the manifold and the throttle body. Joy
