I have a 2009 Toyota Venza 6V AWD. I'm going to be out of town for the next month and a half, and my car will be sitting in the underground parking garage at my apartment. I have read that car batteries tend to die after approx. 2 weeks if the car sits. Unfortunately, the assigned parking space it sits in does not have access to an outlet for a battery tender/maintainer. So my question is, should I disconnect the battery terminals to prevent it from discharging? Also, is there anything else should I do to keep the car in a good condition while it sits?
It shouldn't die in 2 weeks, but you could have problems starting it in a month and half if it's cold out. Yes unplug it. Best thing to do would be to pull the battery out and put it on a trickle charger somewhere.
I suggest, even if you're going to have your battery not in use for a week to put it on a trickle charger. This will ensure that the battery lasts for years.
I have gone through (2) batteries that way. And albeit the fact that I took my battery out of the car and put it inside my place, it will discharge over time.
Always keep it on a Trickle Charger.
