[Solved] Which oil grade should I use

Scotty, please suggest. I live in a hot country with winters barely 0 degree Celcius, and summers with circa +35-40 degree Celcius. My Corolla users manual says to use 0W-20 (since it is American made), but I believe I should switch to 0W-30 for longer engine life. What do you think about it? Thank you in advance

Toyota Corolla, 2019, Made in USA, 1.8 engine (no turbo), 30 000 km, Automatic (CVT transmission)

Welcome new member!

The topic of changing to an alternate oil viscosity (weight) has been discussed here thoroughly. Take a look at the search bar above.

Now regarding your climate, I see why you might think it’s logical to use a heavier weight oil, but @imperator is right that the recommended oil would not change.  What would change is the oil change interval: you need to change more frequently.  This is particularly true if you are driving in hot weather under load, such as stop-and-go city driving or dirt roads.

You don’t specify where you are but I assume it is a deserty kind of place.  If so, then you might be prone to a lot of dust exposure, which will need more frequent oil and filter changes, as well as more frequent changes of the air filter.

Best regards,

Use what the manual suggests.

says to use 0W-20 (since it is American made)

No it says 0W-20 because that's what the engine is designed to work with and not because of where it was made.

30 000 km, Automatic (CVT transmission)

Consider replacing the CVT fluid, use OEM oil.

Replace at worst at 45,000km.

Your engine always operates at the same temperature, which is set by the cooling system thermostat , no matter your climate. Follow your owner's manual.
