i had a ford explorer v6 2008 bought it from the dealer brand new, taken very good care of it and always serviced at the dealer, in 2018 it had 99,000km only and the main computer fried and had to replace it. what could have caused it to go out specially at that very low mileage?

@hussain
Mainly due to THERMODINAMICS! great to find more scotty friend on his new site. Well, I had a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer V6 4.0L AWD suv. I got it with 152000 miles. Just little over a year after owning it also had computer fried. OMG, what a headache. I tried to get one only from salvage. Did not go well. Some time you can get one for certain cars. Well, not this case. I went to the Ford dealer up the road here in Massachusetts, where I live. Took them three weeks and two PCM to get the third right due to that particular 2006 year. Anyways, there is a Scotty kilmer video out there when he talks about PCMs being in the engine compartment. This is the case of mine and think your 2008 as well. All those heat cycles can be a great factor. Keep that in mind. Why would not have a Toyota PCM fail? Because is inside under dash usually. Well hope that helps.

Sometimes it just happens my dude and theres not much more to say. It could be a number of different things and even with a high quality scan tool it would be hard to pinpoint without really tearing into the car and you don't want that. If it goes out again then it's time to start digging into the electricals
