My son's 2019 Ford Fusion 1.5L Ecoboost loses about a pint of coolant between oil changes. There are no visible leaks. I've heard these engines have an issue with burning the coolant in the cylinders and there is currently a class-action lawsuit against Ford pending. I'm wondering if it would be best to get rid of the car now and buy something else or should we hang on to it and try nurse it along.
If you get the price you’re after, get rid of it now. If not, drive it a few years & keep adding coolant.
The car is still under warranty isn’t it? If yes, try your level best to get the dealer to fix it.
According to this info it appears the dealer is not going to do anthing about it as FORD in itself does not have any solution because of the Class Action Lawsuit. If a dealer does some correction work and Ford warranty does not authorize it..the dealer will eat the bill unless the owner pays..which in this case would be doubtful unless they were lied to.
Correct, which is why if I was in this owner’s shoes, I’d get rid of it now for as much as I could before something bad happens & renders the car a lawn ornament. I’d rather lose $$$ in depreciation, than ruin my sleep wondering ‘what if’?
Sometimes the owner may have financed the vehicle and does not want to lose further money by selling so they hang on to see what the lawsuit may bring..hoping for some magic bullet or financial remedy better than sellling the car. Who knows some may have traded in a car which they owed money on....financed this new car and transfered the money owed from the old car into one new car contract. Thats the worse possible scenario I can think of.. Oh well...its a tough situation indeed..
Indeed! Stuck between a rock & a hard place.
Still drop the car off at the dealer and have them write it up. A paper trail is important.
Also, report the defect on NHTSA after Ford dealer checks the vehicle.
