Scotty...
A good friend of ours had trouble with her 2004 Honda CR-V while she was 80 miles out-of-town. She pulled into a Honda dealership, which told her it would cost $3,000 to repair the vehicle (sorry, I don't know what was wrong, but she does take care of the car). They gave her $500 for trade-in...and by the time she left the dealership, she ended up paying $45,500 for a 2020 Honda HR-V. The $45,500 includes roadside assistance and some other questionable add-ons. She has never had to buy a car before and I can't convince her to pursue legal action. What would you do?
Please hit post once and wait for the system to respond; it takes a while.
That's even worse than the typical stealership, they took her to the cleaners. I can't even imagine what the terms of the loan must be. She could have practically bought two brand new Toyota Corollas for that kind of money! It would not surprise me to find they fixed some minor problem on her old CR-V like a fan belt or ignition coil and it's sitting on their lot for $10,000.
Unfortunately if she agreed to the pricing and addons and signed the contract there is probably not much that can be done legally, but only a lawyer can tell you for sure. Maybe see if local news media in the area would be interested in exposing those charlatans.
Tell your friend to contact the local TV station so they can do a story about the local dealership that ripped her off. Then have her call the dealership to either make it right or watch the interview about them on TV.
I mean this is typical dealership (stealership actually) behavior. There might be legal action she can take but it all depends on the paperwork she signed, the terms of the sale and whatever they sold her etc. So she might be able to take legal action and maybe not. But another idea is providing Scotty (by emailing him) with the actual paperwork and more details and maybe he can talk about it in one of his videos and put pressure on the dealership.
