Hey Scotty,
I have the Lexus NX 300 2.0 four cylinder turbo and a LEXUS RC-F 5.0 V8. The manuals say I need premium fuel for both. Friends say I'm throwing my money away. What sayest thou ?? Thanks for your advice.
Do you trust the engineers who built it, or your friends who had literally nothing to do with the building process? Tough choice.
I can tell you when I engineered engines for GM, if we gave it a label of Premium Required, that meant Premium Required. If it was recommended Premium, you could run the cheap stuff but lose power and MPG.
You have two Lexus vehicles, one of which is an F-Sport, and you're worried about saving cents at the pump at potentially the cost of damaging your vehicle? {black}:deceitful: {black}:idontknow:
What are the exact words in the manual?
If you care about performance and efficiency and it says "premium recommended," get premium. If not, get regular.
If it says "premium REQUIRED," get premium, period.
Just read the manual if you dont know look it up on Google or at gas cap there should be a number on it
If you want performance get high end one
If you want to save money get lower end one.
Don't worry its nor gonna damage the engine unless u add turbo in it or cooking oil sorry sarcasm
I'd trust what the engineers advise in the manual over what friends say
I doubt they advise premium for fits and giggles..if it won't perform optimally with that gas you won't get the best driving experience out of it, which does nothing positive for Lexus's reputation or survival as a company
This has been brought up many times on this forum. Do a search. Here is one example:

yes unfortunately you need to put premium since its turbo charged also use top tier like shell
