Hello I’m helping my Friend find a cheap used car and I came across this 1991 Geo Metro automatic with 100,000 miles for $4,000 I’m just wondering are these cars any good, thank you

Seems way overpriced. All rubber parts will be deteriorating. Parts are going to be tough for a minor import from over 30 years ago. Aside from gas mileage about the only advantage I can think of is they are simple vehicles and you could probably rebuild that little 3-cylinder engine and even the 3-speed automatic transmission on the kitchen table. (Oh, and with the automatic and 55 horsepower engine it will be a real slug, with gas mileage not even all that great - EPA estimates for the automatic are 10 mpg less than the stick shift.)

That raises a lot of red flags:

  1. 1991
  2. Geo
  3. Metro
  4. automatic
  5. 100,000 miles
  6. $4000!!

I suppose it has some collector value value as an oddity.  But do not try to daily drive this car. (Now maybe the Geo Prizm, which was a rebadged Corolla, would be OK. But I think the Metro was a rebadged Daihatsu.)

That is too much asking price. For a car with that age, probably it's only worth couple hundreds of dollars regardless of mileage. Also parts for this thing are hard to get.

100,000 miles f

How do you know? It only had a 5 digit odometer. They weren't supposed to go very far.

Well beggars can't be choosers you're not going to get much for a thousand bucks. They can be okay cars. Just realized they have three cylinder engines in parts are kind of hard to get for an United States
