A few months ago I purchased a 2010 Mazda 3 with 88,500 miles. I’m near the next oil change and I have no clue what type of oil was used previously (oil change sticker shows it was a repair shop). As of right now it’s my work car (Doordash) so I’m going to drive it until the wheels fall off. Because of this I was wondering whether I should switch to Pennzoil High mileage full synthetic considering it’s mileage. I really want the superior protection full synthetic oils offer considering I will be using my car for work. But I have seen scottys video on oils and he mentions that you shouldn’t switch from conventional to synthetic. There are tons of anecdotes from people experiencing leaks from switching but there are also tons of anecdotes from people who’ve had zero issues with switching to synthetic. I’m really confused because I just want my car to last as long as possible. And one more thing: I don’t drive like a maniac. I drive conservatively to prevent unnecessary wear and I don’t want tickets. Also the engine has been well maintained it has NO leaks, no VVT ticks, and purrs like a kitten! I’d appreciate all your feedback!
PS: If i can’t use synthetic can I just use synthetic blend since that is the oil that is pretty much readily available?
You do not have high mileage. But I would not hesitate to use full synthetic (for full benefit). In the even there's an issue (there won't), you can always switch back.
Wether it’s conventional, full synthetic, or a blend just be sure to change it every 5,000 or whatever interval the owner’s manual recommends.
