Hi,

I am looking at one honda accord 2014, cvt 2.4L. The offer looks ok, but when i checked the kbb, for the vin, it shows a safety recall on the vin -

Electrical system :12v/24v/48v battery
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID:
17V418000

Report Date:
Jun 29, 2017

Consequence:
An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.

And it says can be fixed for free.

Is it safe to purchase vehicles that has recalls, after getting fixed. Should it be done by the original owner, or should it be done after purchasing the vehicle. Any thing that we need to be aware when dealing with these things, before buying the vehicle

Like Doc said, whether you should buy it is at your discretion.

To answer the other part of your question - recalls will be repaired free of charge for whoever owns the car.

So if you wanted to buy the car and get it fixed you’d be able to. As with any problem on a used car, use it to negotiate a lower price.

In that case, I would pass.  If the recall was issued in 2017, why hasn't the work been done in 5 years?

If you can verify that the recall was accomplished and documented, it should be OK.

No the recall is still open. My Question is if i can go ahead with the purchase and fix it for free after registering. I just found out when searching with the vin
