I have a 2000 s type jaguar 4.0 with 89,000 miles...the check engine light recently came on...I scanned it and it reads codes p1383 and p1388...I want to do and how much trouble I'm in $$.

Jags become endless money pits in 20 years old. Those codes are for camshaft problems not being in the right position which can cost a fortune needing timing chains and or variable valve timing sprockets probably a good idea to get rid of that thing soon.

These Jaguars are super cheap. If you really like the car, go buy another one. Probably cheaper than fixing one if you have serious timing issues. I fixed my XJ6 by replacing the sensor but I was lucky. The build quality on these cars is deceptive, they seem well built but they aren't made to be maintained by mortals. If you really love the car then be prepared to be an*l raped. I'd say spend a little money to see if it is bad sensors or something else easy to fix but don't dump any real money into it. The S type is an English Buick, they depreciated like a rock off a cliff for a reason.
