Hello everyone,
After watching Scotty's recently uploaded video about the Mazda Cx-5. As I reside in Canada, where the winter temperature drops to -30 degrees Celcius with snow, I need all-wheel drive vehicle with some ground clearance (both recent used or new car). I am looking to purchase an SUV (Japanese). It just crossed my mind that how can I know if my new vehicle is made in Japan in advance. Is there a way?
Thank you so much!
You can confirm the vehicle's place of manufacture, model year, and other information by referring to the VIN. The first character of the code indicates the country of manufacture: 1 or 4 means USA, 2 is Canada, 3 is Mexico, J is Japan, K is Korea, S is England, W is Germany, and Y is Sweden.
At the time of ordering the new vehicle, do they tell me the VIN?
Uh they should make sure you find out the VIN before ordering a vehicle.
Thank you. I have never ordered a brand-new car in my life.
Ok
If the final assembly of the vehicle is Japan, the 1st digit of the VIN (vehicle identification number) is J.

You can find the VIN number serveral places on a newer car:
See through the lower right corner of the windshield, label on door jam, inside door of glove compartment or sticker on edge of trunk opening.
Many dealers will publish the VIN in the advertisement of the car online.
