[Solved] 2013 Honda Accord Metal Grinding Sound (sounds like rear left wheel), particularly when going in reverse

I have a 2013 Honda Accord with 6sp manual. 142,000 miles. Have done the two front wheel bearings on it in the past two years. I recently got a grinding noise from what sounds to me like the rear driver side wheel area. It is loudest when I am parked and go into reverse and does not occur when applying the brakes or at anytime going down the road and braking. It sounds like metal grinding against metal or also kind of like if one of those air ride suspensions was constantly inflating, it sounds like that too. When driving down the road, there is no roaring sound and no volume increase when the speed increases like I got with my two front bearings. 

 

With having had to replace two front bearings, I ordered two rear hub/bearings from Timiken and just finished putting the rear driver one in. The sound is still there, maybe slightly quieter, but.... 

 

I don't think I've ever replaced the rear rotors or brake pads. I have mostly highway miles and am very gentle on the brakes, so do you think it could be that those need to be replaced and that could solve the problem? I did notice that once I finished the re-install of the hub and put the wheel back on with it still in the air, I got a similar sound when I would turn the wheel backwards, but really not a sound when going forward with it. It wasn't the entire spin, more like at two points and that's what I notice while on the ground in reverse, it's like i hear the grind noise, then there is a break in the sound and it's more quiet, then I hear it again as the wheel is making a revolution. It still occurs after I put the car back into neutral and just let momentum keep it going backwards and my foot is off the brakes.

Thanks..it ended up being a brake related sound, most likely the pads. One had about 2.5 times more material than the other one on the driver side. Once I did the pads and a new rotor, the sound was gone. I went over and did the wheel hub assembly, pads, and rotor on the passenger side too. A pain to get the RH Rear hub off, but I should be good for a while now.

Update..... I actually see that we had the front and rear rotos done plus pads back in 2019, so the car has had about 50k more miles since then with those on there.

You have to disassemble and inspect. Sometimes there's just debris trapped in there.

Inspect the pads for uneven wear. You have to look all around each pad.
Does the parking brake have separate shoes or do they utilize the same caliper brake pads? If so pull off the rotors and inspect the parking brake shoes. Another more remote possibility are motor and transmission mounts. Is the car FWD or AWD?
