What’s going on with my 2013 Mitsubishi ASX/Outlander Sport?

Good Morning Scotty!

I hope someone might be of assistance or might have experienced the issue before,

I have an mitsubishi outlander sport 2013 model with 270000km on the clock, recently i have started experiencing and issue where when i start the car and idle it for about 2 minutes and start driving my RPM will jump between 1500 and 2000 whilst moving and pressing down on the clutch, this will jump up and down about 5 times and will balance out automatically to 700RPM.

After an hours driving the rpm will run between 900 and 1100 and when switching of the car and starting it again will go back to 700RPM.

I have taken the vehicle to Diagnostics and the bought my own OB adapter and the error I receive is P0500 which indicates to a faulty speed sensor, be that as it may my speedometer and rev counter is working 100%.

Under my freeze frame i have found a P0400 error which states Closed Loop using O2 sensor. Now i have had the car at two guys and both failed to get the issue resolved. As im not an complete idiot with cars i just might need some guidance in where to look some more over the weekend maybe.

PS i have replaced airfilters, oil filters, spark plugs, removed the throttle body and clean it, checked the actuator on the Throttle Body, checked my o2 sensor, i have found after replacing the plugs that there was an power issue on the car, this had me checking the plugs again and found oil on the first plug

After the weekend i did reset the code on the car, drove about 80km around in town and the engine light did not come on, this morning when got on to the highway and got about to 125km/h the engine light came on with the same error code p0500 speed sensor.

Thank you in advance for any advice given

For the P0500 code, simplest scenario would be that the connection or wires to the sensor might be loose so they can trigger the code. Pray that the ECM is not the issue.

Regarding the issue you have with the rpm, have you cleaned the ICV and the MAF sensor?

This is exactly the thing, MAF sensor i have checked but coming to ICV/IAC i cant seem to find this anywhere on my engine, i have had an iac issue before on my previous car where it was mounted on my throttle body, yet with this car i have actually taken out the throttle body to see if i can find it, is there a possibility that my car does not have one ?

It should be on the throttle body. Check your owner’s manual.

So checking again yesterday afternoon i have not found any ICV sensor

Searching online this is what my throttle body looks like ( https://www.amazon.com/Throttle-Replacement-Mitsubishi-Outlander-1-6-2-4L/dp/B07SVYG5R8) i have checked the owners manual and cant find any info on a sensor like that for my car.

You might not have ICV, but have you found the MAF sensor?

That i have found yes i there a specific test i can run to see if its working or just replace it ?

Clean it first. Then you should have a linear behavior between the reading and the rpm.
