2018 Mitsubishi Mirage CVT Acts Up ONLY in Cold Weather!

Scotty, I have a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage with 31,000 miles. It has a 1.2L 3 cylinder engine and a Jatco CVT7 transmission. I live in Toronto, Canada and my CVT transmission feels like a stiff rubber band when I drive the car in freezing temperatures. Even if I warm up the engine for 5 minutes before driving, the car revs abnormamly high when trying to accelerate, and has issues downshifting (tachometer can be seen 'bouncing up and down gently' as if the belt is slipping). Strangely enough, after 10-15 minutes of driving, everything drives fine. It's as if the CVT fluid is extra viscous in the cold, and takes a long time to warm up properly. I had the fluid changed from the dealer (stock fluid) at 20 000 miles but the problem still persists. Should I be worried that the transmission is being damaged when it is cold? The car drives perfectly fine in the summer weather and has NO OBD codes whatsoever.

You already changed the fluid. If I were you, I would go easy with that transmission especially in cold weather conditions. You can let the car warm up more, if you realize it helps the shifting.

Thanks so much for your reply, Yaser. Cheers.

You're welcome.
