Hey Scotty,
My dad passed away last year and I moved in to take care of my mom. My parents loved cars and so do I. There were 6 vehicles when I got here. I've been trying to maintain them all and have a question about this 2003 Corvette Convertible Auto base 245HP 5.7L.
The vehicle has 56k on it and I'm sure it hasn't had much done to it as far as services since my dad got it about 5 years ago.
Of course I immediately changed the oil and looking for info on what else I should be doing to the vehicle... It's in great shape and runs well.
I know these cars are pretty bulletproof but I'm curious about the Auto Transmission. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to change the transmission fluid.
I know you recommend a pan drop and replace same fluid that comes out. I'm just curious if that's a good idea or just leave it be. It drives fine and is very fun and firm shifting most of the time. Only time I have shifting issues is when I am driving on a 2 lane road and go to pass someone. If I floor the car it sometimes slips revs up for a second or 2 and then grabs a gear. The car is 19 years old and I know things aren't gonna be perfect. I just don't want to ruin anything changing the transmission fluid.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated too. I'm thinking of changing the brake fluid and coolant too.
Thank You Very Much
Nate Hollobaugh
P.S. There's a almost all original 1963 Corvette Roadster here too I haven't gotten back on the road. That car has always been in my life. Just needs a battery and a service to get her going. Clutch soon to follow.
If you're ever in central Florida I'd love for you to review that one or the whole fleet.
I'd def change all the fluids, inspect all the brake and rubber bits - hoses, belts, etc. If your Vette had more than 56k miles, I'd be hesitant to change trans fluid, but I would go ahead - if the trans fluid wasn't dark or smelly, If you're super-cautious, take what you drain, take half of it and mix that with fresh and put that back in - then it will have some of the new and some of the hold.
Corvettes are one of the cars where there are a lot of active owner's clubs - take advantage of that, especially when you try to get the 63 one going. Here's some info on that.
