Hello, I’m going to be in the market for a car sometime in the relatively near future. I live in Minnesota, where basically for a third of the year we worry about weather conditions.
Previously, my family has had a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4x4 with a v8 (broke down (blown head gasket?) at somwhere between 250,000 and 300,000 miles) and a Chrysler 300c that the awesome hemi and much needed awd (car accident between 250,000 and 300,000 miles).
There’s no doubt in my mind that I will need a vehicle with all wheels spinning for these winters. BUT, I also want a vehicle that will last longer than I will.
It just seems like car companies take pride in how fast they can make a customer come in for a new car.
I’m pretty sure an awd car would be the way to go, since I live in a more urban area and I basically only drive myself to and from work and errands
But, reliable awd cars seem hard to come by.
Please, give me some guidance,
If I should get an awd, what should I get? Maybe I shouldn’t buy an awd car and just get a darn 4-runner, at least it’ll be working, right?
please help

Greeting from right next door in ND. If I was living in the cities metro area I’d stick with an older CRV or the new RAV4, the TRD model is s beast. I say this because they are much better on gas. Now if your a rural Minnesotan a 4Runner or Explorer would be better. Much more built for harsh winters and soggy spring roads.
Every car has its pros & cons. However, if you’re looking for a reliable vehicle, your best bet will be a Toyota. My vote goes to the 4Runner.
