Oil change for infrequently driven vehicles

Hi,

I have a '11 f150 XLT 4WD w/V8 & auto and 19,000 miles. It's used infrequently and garaged over winter. I sometimes pull a heavy trailer short distances with it. It logs about 1,500 miles a year if that.

I also have a '13 Mustang w/V6 & manual and 23,000 miles. It's also garaged over winter and driven infrequently. I drive it conservatively and log maybe 2,000 miles per year.

Both vehicles complain (dashboard screen) about needing another oil change 6 months after an oil change. Usually there's only 1000 miles or less on the oil and it looks perfectly clean. I normally do an oil change at 2 years and 1500-3000 miles but the interval is much more than recommended.

How often should I change oil on these vehicles? Most of my miles are logged in a '13 Nissan Frontier 4cyl w/manual which gets its oil changed every 5,000 miles.

Love the videos, Scotty, and hope you are well.

General rule of thumb is every 5000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.

I’ve heard some mechanics say every 5000 miles / 6 months. That might have been true with older oils and vehicles.

I think 5000 miles / 1 year is a good marker, like suggested above.
