I wish your website had a place to submit unusual / rare problems FOR WHICH I ALREADY KNOW THE SOLUTION. You have helped me so very much Scotty, that I want to Pay It Forward and help you and others with a solution to a strange problem.
And I solved the problem with something that you highly value: Common Sense.
My car problem could be used on your site as a quiz just like the quizzes Click & Clack presented on their old Car Talk radio show.
Problem: While driving my 1997 Toyota Avalon, I guy pulled up next to me at a stop light and told me that he almost ran into my back bumper because my brake lights were not working. Because both left and right lights were out, I knew it was not a bad light bulb. I checked the fuse but it was good. Hmmm, what could cause this problem? I thought about the path that the wiring takes through the car. I was then able to get my brake lights working again in a matter of a few seconds while sitting in the driver's seat. What did I do to fix this problem?
Answer: I pressed the emergency flasher button on and off several times. I realized that in the many years that I had driven the car, that I had never pressed that button, so I reasoned that the contacts had become tarnished.
Now, for any car that I own, I make it a point to cycle the emergency flasher button a couple times a year. This also helps me remember the location of that button, which in some traffic situations, needs to be pressed immediately.
How can I tell if Scotty or his support group has read this post?
