Electrical accessories go haywire when I drive 80mph

Hey Scotty,

I got a 2014 Hyundai Azera Base with 181,500

Take great care of it, and in turn it takes good care of me.  Lately I've been having an issue with a phantom short. When I'm rolling at 80 mph with the stereo going and the heater running,  the electrical gadgets all cut off.  The stereo disconnects and all the lights on the dash go haywire.  The TPS monitoring system is always the last light to stop displaying. What do you think would be causing this to persist? I replaced several items and it seems to consist.  Any ideas? Thanks for all you do Scotty!

Something may be vibrating at that speed and causing your troubles. (like a bad ground or loose electrical connections at the battery/elsewhere).

Test the alternator, what kind of volts are you getting with the alternator on?

I had a similar problem with my 07 Pontiac g5. The power steering (electric) jammed and stereo and lights started flickering soon as I approached my driveway.  Thankfully it did not do this on the highway. I parked the car and read the voltage on battery - it was at 11 volts. The battery was drained. It was keeping the car running and alt was putting out just enough juice to not stall at highway speed. But soon as you went idle it was not able to produce enough voltage.

So from my experience I would start there check the alternator and battery. First do a cold test on battery with a multimeter. Then start the car and measure the battery again. Cold and off should be 12.6+ for a good battery and 13.5+ for a healthy alternator.

It also can be a bad ground - or a few of them. Is battery grounded properly ? Any rust on car or frame?
