Quoted repairs for an oil leak?

Hey Scotty, my brother and I are big fans of the channel, and it’s even cooler since you live in Houston (at least I think you still do) and we live in Manvel. I have a 1997 Toyota 4Runner, with the V6, automatic transmission, she’s got 210,000 miles on her, I gave 3,000 cash for it from a used dealership in Galveston tt&l included. She’s in pretty great condition except she’s leaking oil bad and I’m not entirely sure where from. (It kinda looks like it may be from the oil pan gasket, I haven’t really given it much of a look as I haven’t had the time.) but I’ve found out recently, due to your channel, that the timing belt should be replaced every 100,000 miles and I’m unsure if that’s happened at all in her lifespan. So my question to you is, would you be willing to repair it for me? And what would be the estimate? Normally I’d repair it myself or go to a shop closer to my house but I thought it’d be a kinda cool experience for my brother and I to come by and meet you.

Unfortunately for you, Scotty moved to Tennessee, and is visiting Rhode Island.

But this video might help

Hey buddy hello from california. If it is the Oil pan gasket it is definitely a DIY possible job with hand tools. At the most you may need a breaker bar for some of the bolts on the exhaust pipe, they rust shut sometimes. I recently did the job on my 96 civic and found that the oil pan gasket had hardened up over time and broken in like 12 different spots. The timing belt is trickier especially on V6 and may be better left to a professional. The DIY part you could probably do there is removing the upper timing belt cover to see how worn the belt is. If your engine code is 5VZFE then you have a non interference engine, in the event that the belt breaks you will just lose power and cause no damage to the engine.
