[Solved] Rear Brake rotor worn out unevenly

Hi Scotty and Friends,

I recently took my car to P3P 80YS for a wheel balancing and they happened to perform a break inspection.

They reported
The LR brake rotor is at .386 in and the pad is at 3 (32nd).
The LL brake rotor is at .382 in and the pad is at 10 (32nd).

they suggested I change the rear brake pads and they would also turn the less worn out rotor to match the two.
on reading a previous article: https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/hyundai-brake-wear-uneven/#post-109081
I see the calipers need to be serviced as well, my concern is if I can trust P3P 80YS to service the calipers right?
I plan to go an a road trip and expect to drive 4000 miles over a period of a month.

On a side note, they did not inspect the front brakes and said they will inspect those when I bring it in the next time, felt fishy.
And yes, I am also wondering if I should replace all brake pads at once ? Akebono Pro Act vs Wagner ThermoQuiet vs OEM (all options being ceramic)

Car Info:
2007 Toyota Highlander 3.3V6 2WD
104000 miles, no complaints with braking as of yet.

Rotors don't need to have matched thickness. Brake cylinders have a wide range of actuation, and brake fluid will go into them as needed. And the difference in your rotor thicknesses, 4 thousandths of an inch, or the width of a human hair, is laughable. I would leave the calipers alone.

Brake pads should be replaced in pairs (left and right), so they don't pull you off the road. But you don't have to do all four corners together.

Which is a good thing, because the front brake pads wear out 10x quicker than the rear ones, and do 90% of the job of braking work. Those are the ones you want to focus on, so not checking them was pretty unprofessional of them.

you should try inspecting and servicing brakes yourself. It's easy and you can save hundreds of dollars.

Thank you for your advice @mmj

If you imagine these guys as Manny, Moe, and Jack you'll get a pretty good idea of the quality work you can expect them to do on your car:

I would not let Pep Boys work on my lawn mower, let alone my car.

LoL
understood I'll avoid going to them the next time.
Would you suggest firestone or les schwab for wheel alignment/balancing ?

Absolutely NOT.

read the faq for finding a mechanic

thank you.
