Rubber fuel line to filter -- lubricant?

Topic starter

I am in the process of replacing the fuel filter in my 2003 Subaru Forester -- I managed to remove the existing rubber lines, with some damage, and hence am going to replace them. Is there any lubricant I can place on the metal fuel filter lines to make installation easier? I've done some brief searching and have seen mentions of motor oil, silicon, gas etc. What would work best and not be harmful to the rubber?

Thanks!

I usually use silicone spray for that kind of thing.

That's what I use if I don't have silicone spray handy.

Vicks petroleum jelly.  It's great for hoses, o rings and a lot of other things.  An old mechanic guy told me about this trick a long time ago.  I keep a jar in the shop.
