Should I use CRC Belt conditioner

Should I use a conditioner to prolong the lifespan of my belts? I saw CRC Belt Conditioner at the auto parts store and was wondering if it’s good for preventive maintenance or a waste of money. I thought maybe I could just use AT-205 but others said not to do that in this post: https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/can-i-spray-at-205-on-a-timing-belt-or-drive-belt/

No, don't use anything on your fan belts or timing belts.

how much does a can of "conditioner" cost?

How much for a new belt?

It's about $5 for a can but a lot less of a hassle than switching a belt

@gew
$18.29 https://www.napacanada.com/en/p/CRL75350
what hassle? It's a one beer job.

{pear}:happy: maybe for you it's only a one beer job but for me depending on the engine it can be a two to five beer job

I personally have used it when my belt was squeaking but I wouldn't use it as a preventive measure

But if it’s squeaking then it’s probably time to change it right?

Not necessarily I would look at the belt and see if it looks like it's cracked or worn a lot of times the squeaking is not from the belt itself but from one of the pulleys

then you have a pulley to fix. Not a can of spray to buy.
