I smashed my 2020 Honda Odyssey Elite (7,000 miles) into a snow bank. Front bumper facia has a couple cracks and a bottom piece broke off. The under carriage has some cracked plastic and a bent metal shield that is near the transmission.
Car drives like nothing happened. There was an initial burning smell but I found some melted plastic from part of the bumper that broke off. Smell went away after a few minutes.
This thing has the full Honda sensing package.
Do I try to fix myself? Pay someone to do it? Call insurance?
if you have insurance with collision coverage then use that
Agreed. Practically new. Nice van with upper trim level. You want to keep it looking nice - now is not the time for a DIY special.
When it comes to optical and radar based sensors, it is better you let a pro do the job. Same with computer stuff.
It must be bad feeling when you crash a new or good used car.
Good luck and stay safe!
My bet is that your system has to be, at least, recalibrated. You hit a snow bank! Fellow, locally, just got stuck in the snow with his new Toyota. Bunch of us folks run out to help him, … push him out! No trouble, … Guess what? “Christmas" lights on his Toyota’s dash shortly after illuminated. Turns out, sensors mounts behind those plastic bumpers are very flimsy, … helpers, by pushing - unwittingly bent a couple of them! You have to replace them and realign/recalibrate the whole shebang. It took $$$ to fix it all!
Anyway, … I just hope your Honda is bit better built than that unfortunate ‘19 Toyota!
