I have a 1998 Ford Ranger. 4.0 automatic with 124000 miles.
My fiancé and I recently purchased this truck, it had no issues test driving, felt great. 30miles later it decided to act up, around 30 to 45 miles an hour the engine rps drop to zero, and the truck feels like it dies and then come pack to life. This is when you barley give it a little gas while coasting. Along with this it will randomly die at idle, or when put into drive or reverse. After dying it may take a second to start, while in park it will start up and idle great or when in neutral. Any ideas? Emissions? Fuel? Torque converter? We’re at a loss..
Any codes? It sounds like a probable clogged fuel filter (hopefully.)
How do I check the life of the filter? I would hope it’s that.. and no, no codes
Why check the life of it? Just replace it.
Besides what @Doc said, clean the MAF sensor and throttle body and replace the air filter.
