[Solved] How do I fix ABS and traction control faults

Subaru legacy 2009

Hi everyone, I hope that you can help me, my car turn on the abs and traction control lights also show er ss in the odometer, the Subarus have an option to show the error codes without a scanner tool and I have in the abs module codes c0025 and c0026, after a google research I find this:

Abnormal ABS sensor, open circuit or voltage too high

25 – rear right ABS sensor

Abnormal ABS sensor, abnormal ABS sensor signal

26 – rear right ABS sensor

the traction control and abs light remain on all the time, when I start the car and move it for a few seconds the lights turn off, then after other seconds the lights come back and stay all the time, sometimes when the lights are off the lights come back after brake and fell that the brakes are slipping (if you drive in the snow is the same sensation when you brake so hard and the car can’t brake for the ice, something similar but very short). After that and when the lights remain on the car don’t have any problem braking or driving in general.

do you have any idea of the cause of the problem, I know that is something in the speed sensor rear right obviously but I want to know if you maybe can give me an idea if is the sensor who is damaged, if is the wheel bearing (the legacys are famous for damage in the wheel bearings) if if can be another cause.

thanks for your help and your time and have a good day.

Update, maybe my experience can be useful for somebody in the future:

my mechanic check the car and don’t find nothing wrong with the wheel bearing so we decide to replace the speed sensor, after replace it and delete the codes the car works fine, the traction control and abs light remain off after 30 miles (the erSS disappear too) for the moment the problem was fixed. (Hope permanently)

thanks for the report

There's no way we can tell from here what the problem is. You need to examine that right rear wheel for bearing wear, wiring problems, or a failed sensor. The "open circuit" code suggests that the sensor cable has failed, which tends to happen over time due to constant flexing.

those are all possibilities.

obviously make sure it's plugged in all the way. Check for wire damage. Check for loose bearings. Check for rust under the sensor (position is very important).

swapping sensors side-to-side can also help you narrow down the problem.
