Tire recommendation

Hi.  Have a 2003 Merc Grand Marquis GS with yes 22K original miles. I need tires but don’t drive more than 4K miles a year.  Should I buy the cheapest tire or something else since I never use up the tread and only replace due to the tires age.

I would never buy the cheapest tire even if you drive that little. Cheaper tries don't perform as well  , and that difference in performance could cost you your life.

I usually just go to Costco and get what is on sale, or wait for a sale.  It's usually either Michelin or Bridgestone.

Wal-Mart's "Douglas" brand is a decent budget-priced tire, made by Goodyear in the U.S.

For a bit more I like the General Altimax RT43 a lot, have been running those for a few years now and they've been excellent.

Douglas...that's the brand I was thinking about...just couldn't remember the name.

For that car you can get decent tire at Wally world or discount tire for not too much $$.

Never buy Chinese tires they are terrible.

Falken or Dunlop are a usually good compromise between price and performance.

If you drive fast or want good handling Kepler, Michelin and Continental are good but they do cost a lot more.

Get a known brand of tire that is also very affordable. But, of course, I would never even think of buying Michelin's on an 18 year old vehicle. Just get something in between, don't get the lowest quality possible. Your car can't move without tires.
