I was hoping to get your opinion on something! Back in July my 2007 Toyota Avalon started to misfire. We took it in and they had to replace the spark plugs and the ignition coils. After that it ran fine for a while, but it started to misfire again. Took it in last month and they ended up replacing the radiator and changing the coolant. She ran fine until 2 days ago. I was on the highway going about 80-90mph and she started to misfire again. I noticed that I couldn't really accelerate while she was misfiring. I pulled over and shut her off for a few minutes and when I started her back up, she ran fine. Me and my husband are at a loss of what to do now...
Any advice would be so appreciated!!
((The car has about 128,000 miles on it))
Find another mechanic. Spark plugs and coils all don't fail at the same time. The radiator and coolant has nothing to do with misfires.
A failing sensor or its wiring is the likely cause. It will show on a scan tool, sometimes not as a code, but as an abnormal reading.
Wiring everywhere in the engine compartment is always suspect. Look for mouse nest, chewed wiring, etc. Very common and cause all sorts of weird reactions.
Injector connectors become brittle with age and fail to make good contact...need to be tight fitting and no internal damage to connector.
have you checked whether the sparplugs have excessive wear or carbon residu on them?
