Okay so other question I had and been I have been meaning to do this for long time. My Dad had toyota camry v6 from 2000 and it has 250000 miles on it he doesn't use it anymore it is just sitting there in garage. He was planning to donate the car but I am thinking of upgrading it and making it into my weekend toy.
So what should I go with turbo or super charger
New sports suspension
Removing back seat
So its gonna be my first project car if something goes wrong I don't have to worry about so any tips and advice since I am new to this and I live in texas do u know any good mechanics that can help me out with it I can drive to Houston Austin and live in dallas
I think the post got missing
For the mechanic, since this is asked a lot, there is a compilation page about it in the FAQ; here is the link:
https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/mechanics/
Many of them are in Houston/Dallas/Fort-Worth
I used to go to quick kar but they jacked me over but since I started going Christian's brother best decision ever made those guys are honest reliable and know what they are doing but my question is can they help me with car modification?
Good question, I'm sure someone would answer it (definitely not me that isn't my area of expertees) but Mod Man was already pinned in the morning you will most likely have a swarm of answers.
Also I saw in the mechanic page that Christrian's Brother was a good mechanic that was recommended.
Good luck! Also what might help when people are answering is: how much are you planning on putting into it?
@InThrustWeTrust @Kerem Thanks for the mentions, as ever. 🙂
Christian Brothers is a pretty good shop for those kinds of projects. I would not do a turbo setup as that would be a complex build on that car and cost more than what you would benefit.
Supercharging any stock motor with 250k miles on it is a gamble. If you don't care about popping the motor, I would definitely go supercharger over turbo. Just realize that you will be forcing a lot of air into that motor and the seals may not hold it. To properly supercharge it and make it last, I would recommend either swapping the motor out with a lower mileage option and upgrading that motor to hold the extra power, or at least doing a rebuild on the one you have and upgrading the internals on it. Neither option is particularly cheap, but if you spend the money on a supercharger and it blows the engine day 1 I doubt you will be very happy. Also, suspension upgrades and better tires will be investments you want to make so you can actually put the power down.
Another thing to note is you will have a TON of torque steer with a FWD supercharged setup. Torque steer is where when you go full throttle the steering wheel will jerk to either the left or right as the front tires spin. You just have to be ready for it as many people have met ditches because of this.
Sorry for the long reply. Just trying to be thorough. But yes, I would hit up Christian Brothers and tell them what you are thinking of doing. They can get you an idea on pricing and what you need to do. Good luck with it!
Thank you so much everyone I will start working right away this summer
I would upgrade the suspension if you want speed put on a supercharger they're easier to install just realized if you do that you might end up having to rebuild the engine eventually but they are pretty strong engine
