Hey, Scotty. I have a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT with a 5.9L engine and the 46RE transmission. My mechanic recently replaced my Wix transmission filter with a Power Torque as he was adjusting the transmission bands. The gasket on the Power Torque was out of square and didn't seal properly, resulting in air getting into the transmission pump. I drove it that way for 4 days, brought it back in, had the filter replaced again, along with a fluid flush. My transmission is now completely gone. What are my options?
adjusting the transmission bands.
Sounds dodgy.
"adjusting bands" hasn't been a thing since 1990, before transmissions became electronically controlled.
What are my options?
Since it's your mechanic's fault, he should replace the transmission of course.
Dumb question. What does adjusting bands mean? What’s a band?
Go to the vintage videos section of our forum and you’ll find out. I think it’s in ‘read this first’
I can think only of two options.
Option One: Get a rebuild / junkyard unit and pray that it lasts.
Option two:

"adjusting bands" hasn't been a thing since 1990, before transmissions became electronically controlled.
It looks like the 46RE does have band adjustments and did through 2007. (There are some stragglers like that. The 4-speed automatic in my '97 has no electronics and also has provision for band adjustment.) That said, obviously the mechanic was careless and is responsible for the transmission failing.

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT with a 5.9L engine and the 46RE transmission. 251,700 miles with zero issues until my mechanic replaced the transmission filter with a Power Torque filter. The gasket on the filter was out of square, resulting in air getting into my transmission pump. The transmission is now shot. Won't move at all. What can I do?
