  6. My trucks transmission is Messing up please tell me I dont have to replace the whole thing this is the issue I have been having with it
  • I have to put it into second gear before I can reverse it.
  • Upon taking off from any stop I have to put it into second gear before it will drive at all but once it does go into gear I have to put I back in D once it gets up to a certain rp
  • If the truck is going down a hill I can't reverse what so ever I put it in reverse and the sh!+ starts to roll forward!  Would replacing the shift solenoid work or changing out the filter or do I just need a new Tras? 😥
  • Oh and O/D must be off for it to work

P0141 has nothing to do with the transmission, it's a generic OBD2 code referring to the O2 sensor heater circuit.

Does it have enough transmission fluid? What does the fluid look like? (Since it's from an auction - big red flag right there - presumably nothing is known about that 21-year-old vehicle's service history.)

It could be a lot of things. That vehicle needs to be scanned with a professional grade scan tool at a mechanic or transmission shop to retrieve any relevant transmission codes and diagnose the problem.

Our resident transmission guy, @dan, might be able to chime in with some specifics.

You need a new transmission.  Sorry.

I have a 2001 Explorer Sport with automatic transmission with about 165k on it. Mine is slightly slipping even after changing the fluid and filter every 30k and I baby the thing. These aren't known for lasting a long time but if you find out after a pro scans it and it is the tranny you might want to try Scotty's suggestions on draining a quart and putting in a quart of Lucas. Who knows if the previous owner ever maintained the vehicle since it was at auction. Maybe you can get a bit of life out of it. A Ford that old and with that many miles isn't worth a rebuild. Maybe a wrecking yard tranny if you have the ability to pull it and replace it yourself.
