Problems shifting into 'D' when cold

Greetings,

I have a 2001 Lexus es300 that has an automatic transmission and 300k miles on it. Still runs great with a few minor fixes needed along the way.

Recently when I started my car in the morning I put it in reverse to back it out of my garage and then when I put it into drive the car didn't move. So then what I had to do was put it into second and it started to move forward.

I would drive it in second for a little bit and then I would put it into regular drive and it worked fine after that.

Since then I have been warming up my car for a good 10 minutes before driving and the problem seems to have disappeared.

Is it the dreaded transmission problem, shift solenoid or other?

Thanks in advance for all suggestions,

Jasper

At that age and mileage it is probably the transmission, but an expert with a professional grade scan tool would need to diagnose it.

You don't want to poll for internet guesses with something expensive like a transmission.. Get a professional diagnosis.

How'd you make out?

I'm having the exact same problem with my wife's 2006 Chevy uplander. Seems as after it warms up it drive normally.
