Fix it or scrap it?

My daughter drives 2010 chevy equinox LT with 2.4 liter engine. Thanksgiving weekend the engine went dead while she was at a traffic light and it would not start. In addition she got some messages on her dash screen. Towed it to a local mechanic and they did a diagnostic. Results were they recommended a new computer . Then they said they weren't sure about catalytic converter might be damaged due to this problem but would not be certain until new computer was installed and programed. Cost for new computer, installed, reprogrammed was $1300. Possible new catalytic converter cost was additional $1300. First does each estimate sound reasonable? Secondly should car be fixed? It has a little over 150000 miles. Any thoughts about selling it for scrap and parts. Any opinions would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Get rid of that thing, it's amazing it lasted as long as it did. Definitely not worth putting thousands of dollars into which may not even produce good results. See what a scrapyard will give you to tow it away, or donate it to a charity. (They'll strip a non-running car for parts and sell them.)
