I am looking to add a second car. I have spotted a 2017 Volvo s60 premier with 36,260 miles the T5 engine and Toyota 8 speed automatic. Dealer is asking $16700.

Is this a good car?

Is this a good price?

Will this be a money pit in a couple of years like BMW or Benz?

It won’t be money pits like those you mentioned but the Turbo engines tend to have more issues down the road compared to NA engines. Although your is very low mileage and if you do not plan to drive it a lot, it can be a decent car. About the price tag, you are dealing with a dealer, so the price is always high.

All the modern Volvos are European high tech vehicles owned by Chinese company Geely.  Volvos used to make good, long lasting vehicles back in the day, but if you plan to buy and hold on to the vehicle beyond the warranty period it is a gamble.  The engine choices range from 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder to a 2.0L Turbo and Supercharged 4 cylinder to a plug-in hybrid (with turbo and supercharged 4 cylinder with an electric motor) all very complex - and that is not even accounting for all the electronics making up the car.  My advice:  if you like it, lease one.

Thats a pretty good price and they can be good cars for a while after 10 15 years it might have costly endless issues but much more reliable than a BMW or Mercedes until then (even after).

Keep in mind the 2014 2015 + models are very very high tech so keep up on maintenance and sell it around/before 80-100k miles. You might also consider leasing a new one.
