So to start this off I was replacing the wiper fluid pump in my 1998 F150 XL (4.2L v6, std transmission) because it died, likely do to the sediment that build up in there from the previous owner, so I take the battery out to remove the washer fluid tank to clean it out, and when I am removing the battery holder plastic I noticed there was something attached to it, it was connected to some tubes but they weren’t the washer fluid tubes so I looked up the part number and it is a vacuum reservoir and from what I found online it is used for AC systems and cruise control, neither of which I have, why would I have those.
tdlr; why do I have a vacuum reservoir in my truck when I don’t have an AC system or a cruise control?
They are built into all the trucks in case someone wants to pay for it as an extra feature or add on. Back in the day, the dealer could charge a lot more for a vehicle with Cruise Control and in those days, they operated on a vacuum system while today, they are electronic.
