Weird 4Runner engine/gas pedal problem

I have an 01 4Runner with 355000km. If I do not ease onto the gas lightly the engine sort of stutters for a second before revving up. If I am gentle it accelerates normally and smoothly. The issue only arises when I'm hard on the gas from a stopped position. Just curious as to what is causing this. All regular maintenance has been completed with records, the only thing I do not know about is the timing belt, though it looks ok. Check engine light is on but it only says there is an issue with the abs/trac/vsc systems, which I know have been disabled.

I am sorry this is not the best explanation but any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I don't know for sure but check to see if this one is fly by wire on the accelerator pedal.

Does it have a throttle cable or at the top of the pedal is there a variable resistor like a throttle position sensor?

Check it out and that would be my guess about your problem or one of the many. It has a ton of miles on it so those kinds of problems will start to show up. If it has a throttle cable and butterfly, change the throttle position sensor on the throttle body assembly.

Check codes as this might yield some valuable info

change the air filter and clean the MAF sensor. You may have incorrect air/fuel ratio. If the problem still exists, change the file filter and pressure test the fuel pump.

Could be the fuel pump. Can be verified with fuel pressure tester.
