Hi Scotti
I hate to admit this but I own not one but two Kia's. Okay stop laughing.
Recently I had problems getting a aluminum alloy wheel off my 2019 Sorento. I ended up using a hammer and a chisel between the rotor and the wheel. The aluminum had corroded. We live with this kind of corrosion on Long Island being so close to salt water. Aluminum on engines and alternators develop what we call Long Island acne after just a couple of days if left outside. What is the best way of loosening up a stuck wheel. I am afraid of damaging the hub bearing by whacking it with hammer. Plus if I get a flat tire on some dark deserted highway I might not have a heavy hammer and a chisel handy. One suggestion was join AAA.
And what ever you do don't tell my wife. It is her car.
Thanks {black}:sweaty:
Loosen (don't remove) the lug nuts. Slowly lower the vehicle onto the wheel, just enough to put weight on it. (Do not lower the jack all the down!). That'll pop it off sometimes. Sometimes you might have to jump on the vehicle or rock it back and forth.
That actually sound like a good idea. When you live in New York. As Scotti can attest you deal with two things. The road salt in the winter and those lovely ocean breezes in summer. What makes them smell so good is the salt. The same salt which turns solid aluminum into a white abrasive powder.
I know. I live next to the Pacific. 🙂
You could try smearing some anti-sieze compound on the back of the wheel at points where it contacts the hub, or grease, or Vaseline, whatever.
I smeared all four with "Never Sieze Copper" It's for brake calipers. In a pinch though what's the proper way. Kia's manual says nothing.
Any anti-seize compound is ok. What do you mean by "in a pinch?" Just do all 4 wheels and forget about it.
Well it's a mute point for my wife's car but I might have the same trouble on mine. It's a 2021 so it might not have had time to corrode. It might be a good time to do it. Just wondering when you do come across a stuck wheel how do you get it off without doing any damage?
I've never had a wheel stuck on a hub. Of course, I have never owned (and never will) a Kia anything. I cannot stop laughing!
You and my wife.
@mmj came up with the most creative answer - bravo!
