Why is my 88 bronco 2 shifting bad

I have a 88 ford bronco 2 and I was having a problem with it going past 25-35 and it was bucking into the next gear but after that the rest of the shifts are pretty decent so I decided to get a transmission filter and I replaced it I noticed the filter was slimmer than the original one but it fit right on I put everything back filled about a gallon of fluid in it and around 14-16 oz of the Lucas oil transmission fix and I went to go back out of the garage and it wouldn’t reverse I could press on the gas and it would rev up. Same thing with drive but it sits there and then finally it either shoots forward or backwards after that I hadn’t had any other problem with it after I changed the filter just it would do this like when I hadn’t started it and ran it for a while then it would be fine shifting. I also notice before I changed the filter that it bucks whenever going in drive like really bad. But today I decided to drive it for the first time since last night and it of course sat there when I put it in reverse and when it finally did go same thing with drive i was driving it down the road and went to go pull off my road and the rpm’s were going like around 4000 at 25-35 mph and just wouldn’t go any faster then if finally kicked back on whatever it is and drive normal I did kind of step on her when turning off the road which I don’t normally do. I honestly have no clue if this was because of filter or what but this problem just started happening after I changed the filter. I can’t really tell by the dipstick it’s hard to read the fluid doesn’t really stick to it.

You need to be able to get a good reading on your fluid level.  Park it on a level surface, warm up the engine to operating temperature and read the dipstick.  It's probably too low.  It's supposed to take about 12 quarts ( 3 gallons).  The gallon and half a quart you put in is not going to get it.

Yup I ran it for a little longer and checked it and sure enough it was low they make it hard to read them transmission dipsticks I feel like the fluid doesn’t really stick onto the dipstick thanks I appreciate it
