Hey Scotty which transmission is worse in your opinion?
Adding @Dan to the discussion
Always am glad to help.
A bit sleepy but have compiled what i know on these transmissions
So let’s start with the Nissan Xtronic, that’s Jatco CVTs and although they’re not reliable they tend to not have issues for 120,000miles and feel good enough to drive.
verdict; experience is fine, reliability is well bellow average.
The early DSG trannys had a lot of issues but the new ones are an absolute dream to drive - they’re not build to last, they’re built to be fun.
Verdict: experience is good, reliability is slight bellow average
on the ford 6 speed dual clutch, under the powershift brand ford produced (and still does) many different models.
I own both of the 6 speed variants, both the dry powershift and wet powershift and both are decent trannies.
the focus powershift is slightly notchy but that’s not the transmissions fault that’s the engine mass being poorly designed (this tranny is popular in many other car models 1 from the Megane IV to the ForFour)
Verdict; good transmission poor design. Driving experience is “meh” and Reliability is mediocre
Now, Honda isn’t a transmission powerhouse and they have quite a history with failing transmissions. The new 9ZF fail prematurely and so did many of their trannies through out the years… they’re some of the worst, although I’m not sure given what I’ve been seeing of their new CVTs.
Verdict: experience is fine, reliability is bad
On fiat, I am personally only familiar with the fiat dual clutch and those are just odd to drive. I do not like how they felt on Chrysler and dodge products and they constant fail on the Fiat Tipo…
so this one both has a terrible driving experience and reliability.
and on the BMW automated manual, actually haven’t driven one… I drove quite a bit of others from the Toyota C50A (Toyota MultiMode) to the PSA EGS6 and seen probably the worst and the best of this technology.
from what I herd this BMW is better then MMT but worse then EGS6, and as such reliability is poor and experience is poor.
so I’d say that the worst is… (drum roll please) it’s still defiantly the Toyota MMT, or the GM CVT both go about 35k miles between repairs… or the a Hyundai 7 speed dual clutch that literally can fail within 25k miles from buying it new… or the Toyota K111 that costs as much as a new one to rebuild… or the Renault DP2 that slips and slides and ruins m solenoids (…)
our of the list, I’d say it’s the Fiat 6 speed DCT.
haha, thanks for your opinions! 🙂
Ford's MT-82 is worse than all of those.
Typical Getrag engineering.
Not many engineering firms can screw up on the reliability aspect of a manual as that should be relatively simple, but nope even the mechanical parts of their dual clutches great boxes just have a tendency to fail.
I think its a toss up between the fiat and the honda oddysey.
The FPT C635 from the Dodge Dart and Jeep Renegade right?
