| That is the pre-EcoBoost era edge if I remember correctly. They were actually decent little SUV's. Have a mechanic check it out and if he says everything is ok, I'd say you have a good 50k to 100k of life left in it before you start having serious issues. Provided you maintain it correctly. | |||||

| Pass on it and get something else. The edge is very popular on the pre-owned market, so it shouldn't be hard to find one you like without the transmission issues. | |||||
| 2011 Ford Edge LTD Transmission fluid | 17Relevance | 6 years ago | Orhan Alison | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi, Scotty. First of all accept my congratulations for launching this great website! My question is - I recently bought 2011 edge (FWD - Because your advice) 3.5L Duralast engine with 113k mileage for about $7,000. Transmission fluid never been changed and nothing with wrong with car and powertrein. Looks great purchase for me. Things i want to know is it okay to change transmission fluid after 113k mileage? Better do transmission flush or just replace the fluid with new one? Thank you! | |||||

| The one I originally made this forum post for sold, now looking at another 2019 ford edge SEL with 73,000 miles. Dealer says there's nothing wrong with it, selling for $19,223 USD ($24,495 CAD). Still maybe a good buy? and the edge with the 2.0L should be fine with hauling only an ATV right? | |||||

| They're a bottom shelf Goodyear brand. The original name was Kelly-Springfield, the company originally made wheels for horse carriages in Springfield, Ohio, not far from where I live. I have a set of their edge All-Terrain tires on my 1999 ford Ranger, and they're pretty good tires. Snow is no problem for them. I also had their edge All Seasons on my old HHR. They're a budget tire Made in the USA. | |||||

| I would definitely pass. The 2011 Lincoln MKX (based on ford edge platform) has the 3.7L Cyclone (or Duratec) V6 engine, and like the ford edge has a timing chain driven water pump (located within the engine behind timing chain cover) and if it leaked could mix with the engine oil and worst case take out the whole engine. Even if you caught it early it’s still about $1,200-$2,000 to replace the water pump since the engine has to come out. There was also a class action lawsuit against ford for this: | |||||

| Scotty, Looking for an used suv, station wagon, or van. Wanted a ford edge but do not want an ecoboost. 2018 is the last year for the 6 cylinder edge but the water pump issue rules that out. Is there anything out there without direct injection and turbos? If not, what direct injection vehicle would be the least trouble free? I really need your advice! ....Thank you ps: am also ruling out any vehicles with poor crash test results | |||||
| Could one identical engine made at two separate manufacturing plants have different reliability issues | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | SteveK | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello Scotty! I recently found and have become obsessed with your channel. Your Great! I have a 2017 ford edge SEL with the 2.0 eco-boost engine with 60,000 miles. I just joined an edge owners page on Facebook and quickly learned that two manufacturing plants for this engine (Cleveland and Spain) supposedly have very different reliability records. Many on the page say the that the one made at the Cleveland plant have issues with water and oil mixing leading to expensive internal water pump replacement or often blowing the engine! The one made in Spain is ... | |||||

| I have a ford Escape 2017 1.5L AWD. I'm very nervous about cases of engine failure in this engine. I've had no trouble what -so-ever with this car with 40K km on it. I'd like to know your thoughts on me changing engine oil type. I'm presently using Castrol edge Full Synthetic 5W 20 as my owners manual recommends. I'm wondering if you think I should switch to Castrol edge Full Synthetic 0W 20? I can't get a straight answer from my dealer, I just want to take every step possible to prevent an engine failure. | |||||
| Life of a car - how long | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | Pindiwal | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, I've always bought used cars like you. My 2008 Honda Accord 4 cylinder has 170,000 miles and 2010 ford edge AWD has 100,000 miles. I change all fluids myself but go to mechanics for mechanical stuff. Both cars paid for. The Honda burns 1 quart in 1000 miles and needs new catalytic converter. The edge has no problems. I live in Wisconsin now. How long should I keep these running cars? How much should I invest in them per year? Shocks, front suspension parts can be expensive. | |||||

| I am going to give the edge to the Explorer. They have been making them for years and are top rated in the crossover space. The edge has the EcoBoost engine that does have a few issues. Two others to look at would be a Toyota Hylander or the Lexus - Hope this helps some. | |||||

| ... currently getting ready to be recalled due to transmission issues. The 6R80 is light-years better than any GM-Ford 10-speed, but certain electrical components within the transmission can still malfunction on 13th gen models. When the malfunction occurs, the transmission may select 1st gear, even on the highway, possibly leading the rear wheels to lock up. I have the 12th generation of the F-150 with the same transmission, and I'm suspecting this may be an issue with the vehicle's lead frame/valve body. ford had lead frame issues with 12th gen F-150s, causin ... | |||||
