| Hi Scotty, I recently bought a 2009 Ford escape XLT with 112000 miles on it for $1000. I've been meaning to get around to changing the oil on it but I haven't yet. I asked the previous owner of the vehicle what kind of oil he used in it and he said he used conventional 5w-20 oil and said he had no problems with it. I read the owner's manual and it said Ford recommends 5w-20 synthetic blend. Would it harm the engine to switch back to synthetic blend from conventional oil? Thanks. | |||||

| what is "synthetic" oil? It's the same as conventional oil, just more refined (allegedly). That means everything that's in synthetic oil is already in conventional oil, right. | |||||

| Searched the forum and I got the general idea to use it with fresh oil. I don't have the bottle with me right now while at work. I just wasn't sure to use it after I drained the old oil, then add new oil filter and at 205, then new oil, OR drain old oil, add new oil + filter, then add at 205. | |||||

| ... a beater running conventional and changing oil every 3k mi, it’ll work fine. Now, FRAMs tough guard and ultra synthetic filters are actually pretty decent filters in my opinion and worth taking a look at next time you’re shopping for an oil filter. I used to be a guy that bought into these 7500- 9k OCI with these synthetics but I have since changed my mind. Any oil, regular or synthetic shouldn’t go over 5k mi before changing oil. I still live by the 3k mi interval even my vehicles using full synthetic and my motors always look great when I look inside at a ... | |||||

| ... down the road. I took it to a Nissan dealer for a basic synthetic oil change, they have a package where you prepay the oil change and comes with a tire rotation, its $165 for three oil changes. I Always took my Murano and prior Altima as well without any issues. They have since changed advisors so there are many new faces. I was able to see the "tech" change the oil, filter, and rotate the tires. when I went to go sign my R.O. it says they used 0W-20 oil. My car uses 5W-30... So I tell the advisor to check with the tech if that was a typo or if he actuall ... | |||||

| Hey Scotty! I drive a 2012 Scion xB that has got over 180,000 miles on it. My engine was shaking quite a bit. I checked the oil level in the engine and discovered that there as only 2 quarts of oil left. I had to go to Autozone to add 3 quarts of new 5W-20 high mileage full synthetic oil. It has been 3,500 miles since my last oil change, that's roughly 1 burned quart of oil every 1,200 miles. My next oil change is not due until 5,000 miles. I am getting a little worried that my engine is starting to wear down. I have used the Lucas oil Low Viscosity Stabili ... | |||||
| Answer to: Car pours out oil after oil change. | 21Relevance | 4 years ago | Justin Shepherd | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The engine can "contain" a lot more oil than the stated capacity before it were to overflow out of the filler neck. However, by that point, you would've gone through several gallons of motor oil and literally filled every open internal nook and cranny with engine oil. Unless you put WAY too much oil in, the only way it will "overflow" is if you put too much oil for the funnel to properly breathe. When oil goes into the engine via the funnel, the air within the engine needs to come out. If you fill the whole funnel immediately, the air will "burp" out and splash oil everywhere. This is why you pour the oil to one side of the funnel, so air comes out while oil goes in. Unless you have a hole in your oil pan, or a bad pan gasket, oil won't leak out of the bottom of the engine. It will travel downwards if there are leaks at valve covers, etc. when the engine is running, which can look like they're coming from the bottom of the engine. You could also have a rear main issue, but those are unlikely, and would be easy to check with fluorescent dye for engine oil. You were probably sloppy filling the engine, and/or you spilled oil when you took your filter off and it trickled down to the ground. With it now smelling like oil burning and it didnt before the change, I'm willing to bet you spilled oil. | |||||

| Hi Scotty. My Nissan has just over 100k on the odometer. I’ve been using Castrol GTX 10-30 weight oil; I always change my own, and I always use Wix oil filters around 4K mile intervals. The owners manual indicates that only mineral based oil should be used, and that synthetic oils are not to be used. Recently I decided to tempt fate and changed my oil using Castrol’s synthetic oil, and the engine sounds like it is running better. What possible reason could Nissan have for recommending against synthetic oil? | |||||

| Can you post links here? to me it sounds bizarre. synthetic oil should be better for a 657cc 3 cyl turbo. Never herd of any issues with synthetic oil on K series engines (Although I mostly saw the larger 1.2 (Baleno, Celerio, Splash,..., and the Opel Agilia) , 1.5 (Jimmy, Vitara mild-hybrid), 1.6L (S-Cross, SX4, Liana, ...) and the lovely Turbo Direct Injected 1.0L and 1.4L (Vitara, 2023 SX4 Crossover)) Also, don't forget that Suzukis require valve clearance adjustments, and unlike a Honda, Hyundai or Toyota - when you neglect doing that on thi ... | |||||

| ... the engine ran low on oil about 2000 miles after an oil change from the dealership. I had topped it off with 1 quart of Valvolines R+P before changing the oil with full syntethic oil after 700 miles. At around 65k miles, I had notice the oil had fallen below the ¨L¨ line, this was when I started suspecting excessive oil consumption. I topped it off once more with Valvolines Restore and Protect Full synthetic oil. Once I hit 66k miles, or around 2700 miles since the last oil change, I did another oil change but this time with Valvolines Restore and Protect ... | |||||

| The problem with semi-synthetic is that the label does not tell us the percentage of synthetic. "Semi" does not mean 50% as we would assume. It means "partial". So, it is best to get your money's worth with full synthetic rather than pay extra for something that could be less than 10% synthetic. | |||||
| Oil Change Interval on oil burning 2016 Hyundai Sonata | 20Relevance | 4 years ago | alexwyrick | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My 2016 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.4L burns 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. My mechanic has me running 20W50 to help with this, being as the car has 174K miles. Although it's not "full synthetic", the 20W50 I use is Chevron "synthetic blend", which should last longer than regular oil. How often should I change the oil given my excessive oil burning + 20W50 viscosity? (Let's pretend I use the *Mobil One Extended Mileage* oil filter) I was hoping I could go longer than 5000 miles between oil changes given how expensive oil changes are. | |||||
