| Your fuel pump may be starting to go out. Vehicles don't have codes to trip a CEL with that vintage. Check the fuel filter before you just throw parts at it and hope that fixes it. Rent afuel pressure tester as well. It should always maintain 60 PSI for regular fuel injection. If it's below 60 PSI and the fuel filter is clean, change the fuel pump with an OEM one. Don't cheap out and get 3rd party aftermarket crap that's made in China. | |||||

| 98 Dakota dies while driving. V6, automatic trans. 134k miles. New battery, 2 new oxygen sensors. Checked distributor cap and rotor. Found a little white chalky corrosion on posts. Wire brushed it off. Don't think that is the problem. No check engine light yet. What else to check? I am at a loss. | |||||
| 2003 Dodge Dakota 4.7L Shifts Ok but loses power on hills | 18Relevance | 3 years ago | bcaulder8 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, I have 2003 Dodge Dakota 4.7L with 270K miles...original automatic transmission and engine. On the highway, as long as I am accelerating gradually, it seems to shift fine and can get up to 75mph and probably higher. But it will slow down on a hill and I cannot get the car back up to speed to pass a semi for instance. I can no longer "punch it Chewie!" on the accelerator. It does have a P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency and small evap leak codes. It does burn oil I believe as well. Could it be the P0420 issue affecting the acceleration or is it ... | |||||

| Dear Scottie I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota 3.7l V6 4x4 Automatic with 129450 Miles on it. I had a evap leak a smoke test was done by a local shop. It was leaking at the o ring on leak detection Pump on The Charcoal canister and the clamp on the fuel filler side hose. Both was fixed and verified fixed. Codes were cleared after 3 days driving i now have po455 large evap leak. A smoke test didn't reveal anything by the same shop. What could be causing this? Both the charcoal canister and leak detection pump were new along with purge valve solenoid about a year ... | |||||

| I just got out of high school and am looking to buy my first truck. I’ve saved about $4,500 in order to buy an older used pickup truck cash; I’m not looking for anything special, just a four door pickup truck that can last at least 2-3 years. I’ve landed on a 2003 Dodge Dakota Sport with 170,000 miles on it for $4,000 as being my best option close by. It’s a 2 wheel drive truck with a 4.7L v8 magnum engine in it. It runs and drives fine and the interior and exterior are in really good condition as the last owners used it gently (except for faded paint on the ... | |||||

| I have a 2007 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab with a 4.7 flex fuel V8 engine with an automatic transmission. I live in Myrtle Beach, SC, and now it is the hottest time of the year. My ac has stopped working properly. The air flow coming out of vents is weak and the air is not cold. When I start it up with ac on I get a squeak which is like a fan belt being lose! Any suggestions Scotty what this problem is? | |||||

| Hi, I have a 99 dodge Dakota 3.9 4x4 with about 207,000 miles on it. (Junk I know) I’ve changed most everything I can think of but it’s still having terrible idling problems. To the point that if you’re driving it and come to a stop the truck will still try to go on its own with your foot mashed on the break. it was throwing codes P1899, p0505, p0138. Ive took it to a couple different garages and nobody can seem to figure out what’s going on with it.. any help is appreciated! | |||||

| Hey Scotty, I bought a 2004 Dodge Dakota 4.7L V8 4x4 with 174k miles. Had only 2 previous owners. I bought it for $5,000. I have heard bad things about this engine but seems to be running in great condition. Changed the oil and pulled spark plugs to check condition, everything looks good. What can you tell me about these trucks and Is it a good buy ? | |||||

| I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota sport 4x4 3.9l with automatic transmission. This truck has 107,000 miles currently and is all stock. The problem I'm having (which I've come to learn is common on these models) is my transmission will not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear when I drive the truck after its been sitting overnight. I can start it up and take off and it's fine until I hit around 30mph and the rpms will just continue to rise while pressing on the accelerator without gaining anymore speed. If I let of the gas pedal and let the rpms come back down and then ... | |||||

| My partner and I recently inherited from her father, a 2000 Dodge Dakota Sport Extended Cab 3.9L V6 with a manual transmission and 115k original miles. The water pump, radiator and heater core was replaced last year and the engine is very clean. It runs well, but the check engine light comes on from time to time. (I suspect a bad gas cap but have not had a change to scan it.) We want to keep it as a third vehicle for picking up things we are going to need to work on the house we inherited in East TN where we are moving back to. Plus the house is a little out ... | |||||
| 2006 Dodge Dakota: Keep or sell | 18Relevance | 4 years ago | kesterpaul62 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My father has a 2006 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab SLT 4WD 4.7 V8 with 98,140 miles on the clock. He is considering getting rid of it because of the fuel economy on it- even though he drives conservatively. He wants to get something that's more fuel efficient but I worried that he'd might get something bad. The truck is originally from New York and there is rust on the car but the frame is not rotting away. The engine and transmission both work perfectly fine with no issues. Should my father sell the truck or keep it? | |||||
