| 1999 Volvo C70 with blown head gasket for $1000? | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | RevvingRaymond | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello, I am a true Volvo love and have several models. I came across a lovely 1999 Volvo C70 for $1000 that is drivable and interior and paint still looks great, but it has a blown head gasket. What are your thoughts on using a liquid sealer like Barr's or Blue Devil for for the sake of keeping it for short in town traveling? Thanks for all the entertaining help. | |||||

| ... it ran fine. We then changed the radiator, hoses, water pump, oil change and transmission fluid change, even the fuel filter. The next day ran well to work then after work lots of white smoke came out the exhaust. In a nut shell will Blue Devil fix the issue? Or would you recommend I do the head gasket repair or swap engines? Please help Scotty! | |||||
| Answer to: Burning smell when I drive over 70 mph | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | Mental Backfire | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Older cars will typically emit a burning smell when their valve covers start seeping oil out and trickling down onto the hot hot exhaust manifold pipe. A little light degreasing of these areas after repairing the leak will help. A good oil additive stop leak like at 205 reseal or Blue Devil rear main seal stop leak is a good low cost starting point for this. Also, on the tops of the valve covers, sometimes there are wires that run along the top that are encased in black plastic accordian looking wire wrap called "wire loom conduit". Over time it becomes ... | |||||

| ... by the original owner. After I bought it, I did a very good job regularly maintaining the vehicle and it didn't have a single mechanical problem until it got to 300,000 miles on it. After that I have replaced the radiator, the alternator, the starter, and replaced the engine. I also replaced the CV joints that snapped, two times. So far it hasn't had any transmission issues as I have regularly maintained the vehicle. Recently the check engine light came on and I took the vehicle to the auto mechanic and they told me the vehicle very likely needs a new h ... | |||||

| ... Sealants are a temporary band-aid and not a very reliable ones. They're as likely to "seal" and plug up your cooling system and heater core as an ailing head gasket. However if it's that or the junkyard you can give it a try. If you do try something like Blue Devil sealer or similar product be sure to follow directions precisely, which will usually involve removing the thermostat and flushing all coolant out of the system with water. | |||||

| Good day Scotty, It is a pleasure watching your posts and learning how to repair vehicles. Your evaluation of Blue Devil oil treatment has stopped the leaking oil of my 3.8ltr auto 2000 Camaro (original, owned since new w/170,000 miles). Thank you. I have an odd occurrence with the Camaro; my power windows do not function at random intervals. This is noticed when the clock on the radio goes blank. Neither radio or power windows function. Ambient temperature or road roughness (live in Colorado) does not mater to cause this problem. My fuses are clean, good ... | |||||

| Scotty, I purchased the above vehicle on your recommendation. It has 130,000 miles on it. I was told by a mechanic that the rack and pinion was leaking. Should I pay to get it fixed or try Blue Devil stop leak? It is leaking a small amount. Respectfully, Sam | |||||
| Tacoma Timing Chain Cover Gasket Leaking | 16Relevance | 5 years ago | Dash | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My 2016 Toyota Tacoma Offroad 4x4, 60K miles, has been diagnosed with a minor leak from the timing chain cover gasket. The dealership is quoting a $3500 3-day repair. Curious about my options: Is this a mandatory fix, and with what urgency? Is a "leak stopping" product like Blue Devil, or another, advisable? Is this fee reasonable? Should I seek a second opinion? And if the fix is necessary, but the price is high, what is the best way to find a worthy individual mechanic? Thanks! | |||||

| If it’s a gallon every couple weeks I’d say it’s time is done and a few more years is highly unlikely. And that large of a leak a sealant is a long shot I’ve seen miracle videos on Blue Devil I tried it myself and it clogged everything and basically finished off the engine | |||||

| The only head gasket sealer worth using in my opinion is Blue Devil. Never had any other products from any other brand work for longer than a few hundred miles. There will need to be a repair done to get it back to 100%. I would recommend buying a new car though. Those are prone to catching on fire. | |||||
| Answer to: Rocker cover gasket leak | 16Relevance | 6 years ago | Cjbman | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Usually sealants won't work on valve cover gaskets in my experience. The gasket material is usually too thick and the hole too big for it to seal. I have seen them work on oil pan gaskets and some seals. Blue Devil is probably the best one to try but I would just save your money and get it fixed. | |||||
