| ... The parts for these things are dirt cheap. You can buy a new radiator or condenser for under $150. Maybe $350 for shocks. You're talking less money for these repairs than for a set of new tires. I don't know how your ranger is treating you, but mine is very, very, dependable. It seldom needs repairs. (It's gone 10 years since my last major repair which wasn't really major. It needed a fuel pump). Aside from that it just needs normal maintenance. Granted, it's up there in miles now. Like yours, it may need some front end parts eventually. But again, par ... | |||||

| First and foremost Scotty I'm very grateful for your Channel, your knowledge is unbelievable. I recently purchased a 2003 Black Ford ranger Edge extended cab, automatic with 182,000 and little to no rust for $5200.00 from a retired USMC Master Sgt. My neighbor was itching to look underneath the truck just because he likes the ranger and said it looked in great condition. He inspected it from the Rooter to the Tooter and found absolutely no signs of any leakage at all. The previous owner used Mobil 1 full synthetic and Mobil 1 filter at 3k intervals for t ... | |||||

| ... getting an EcoBoost to 200k miles. The engine internals themselves get extra stress from all the extra pressure caused by the turbo. So when the turbo goes out, it is likely not.long after that the motor will need a rebuild. That said, the ranger is a good looking truck. My experience with my 2018 F150 does not allow me to consider buying another Ford ever, but I can see why someone would buy a ranger. I hope it lasts you a long time and treats you good. They are still too new to really judge long term longevity. Maybe if you get it to 200k miles you can t ... | |||||

| I’ve got a Ford ranger 4.0L OHV with a tick and I’m wanting to try and tackle the fix but don’t want to be chancing the wrong thing. Forms I have read say it’s probably worn pushrods and rocker arms. I will attach a video of what it sounds like. What do you think it is and what would you go after changing in terms of a fix. | |||||

| Hello everyone, been having some issues lately with my 1998 Ford ranger, 2.5l 4 cyl, 5 speed, rwd. Recently bought it with 138k miles and did the following, timing belt+ water pump, coolant flush, egr tube, spark plugs and wires. I developed an issue 2 weeks ago with my car surging at higher rpms, probably around 3k? I dont have a tachometer. I changed plugs and wires yesterday to see if it would help, it did for about 20 minutes and then the issue came back. Sometimes on the highway it starts to cut out so badly that no matter what amount of throttle i give ... | |||||

| Back to working on the ranger. I have a 1998 Ford ranger V6 4.0 which was rebuilt with a short block about 30 thousand miles ago. A few months ago I started having trouble where the idle would remain high when I was at a stop sign or light. It didn't this all the time but every once in awhile. We talked about it here and after a few ideas I replaced the throttle cable which seems to have remedied the issue. I then started hearing a buzzing sound around my air box which I researched and discovered it was the idle control valve. After changing the IAC the buzz ... | |||||

| Scotty, im looking at a new 2021 Ford ranger 4×4 lariat. This truck seems to best fit my needs but i had a few questions to make sure its worth my money. 1. Is the engine just an upgraded version of the 2.3 from the focus rs? 2. Is it an interference engine? 3. Is the water pump chain driven inside the engine or belt driven outside the engine? 4. Google says timing chains last 300k plus miles but the service book says it should be changed between 80 to 120k miles. What's going on here I love everything about thia truck but want to make sure its worth my ... | |||||
| 1983 Ford Ranger diesel restoration project | 19Relevance | 6 years ago | James St. Clair | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I was thinking of getting a 1983 Ford ranger Perkins/Mazda diesel. I’d like to restore it, but also make it as simple as possible. I had an 87 with the 2.9 that my dad bought new. I sold it at 21 years old and 190,000 miles. The thing still ran. I liked it. But I always kind of wanted a diesel. I like how simple they were. Slow.. but simple. I want to make it even simpler. I want to take out the factory air filter housing and ducts and just put a cone filter or something similar and super simple directly on the engine intake manifold. No A/C, manual ste ... | |||||

| I have a 1987 Ford ranger 2.3L i4 automatic. odometer discrepancy. I bought this not running from a kid that didn’t know what to do with it. It will crank but not start. It will pop off in a rhythmic way as if just one cylinder is firing. It has spark. And there is fuel on the spark plugs (a lot of it). It previously ran on starting fluid and sounded really good. Any vehicle with a computer and sensors confuses me. Plugs are new, wires are new, fuel has been replaced and circulated. Anyone have any ideas? | |||||

| Hey Scotty I have a 99 Ford ranger 4.0 L 6C with 86,500 miles on it. I was driving on the highway today and the truck wouldn’t go faster than 50 mph even giving it full throttle and the entire truck was shaking at a red light. The truck is from florida and im living in montana now where it was 0 degrees when i drove it today. I got it towed and the mechanic said it’s still leaking coolant and the headgaskets are blown. I just got the thermostat radiator and fuel pump replaced a month ago. Is there any point of rebuilding the engine or getting a new engine? P ... | |||||

| Well Ford is at it again with the never ending recall campaign, three recalls in one week... First they recalled 800k+ 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and 2021-2024 Ford Edge vehicles because the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) may overheat and shut down back in March and they finally came out with a remedy this week... Then they recalled 255k Focus Vehicles for a purge valve that can cause massive engine stalling risks... () And then, even more amazing, they recalled 548k 2018-2024 Expeditions because the chrome trim is peeling- injuring 67 people! ... | |||||

| I've been a Ford person since I was a kid; only two of my cars have been makes other than Ford. I had a BMW and an HHR at one point. I will not be buying any recent Ford products. The GM-Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission is a disaster, and Ford can't get fuel injectors right. The Bronco Sport and Escape had issues with protentially cracking fuel injectors. Rather than admitting they screwed up and replacing injectors, Ford put out a recall to put software into the car to detect fuel leaks. Then, they screwed that up. Stay away from relatively recent ... | |||||

| (EDIT: reworded) 3.5/10 maybe a 4/10 - Since it's an early dry PowerShift that's out of warranty.. The PowerShift, a dual clutch transmission developed by Ford and Renualt, is an absolute mess, especially on early model year Ford cars. Ihad a Ford Focus, it burned through two clutches in my time of ownership, got rid of it when the Ford extended transmission warranty ended. (mine was a European one, built in Germany with the 1.6 Ti-VCT not available in the US, was a fabulous wagon - loved the car, but the shuddering mess of a transmission was too much ... | |||||
