I hope you are having a nice day Scotty.
I currently have a 2022 Hyundai Elantra, which I had to buy in a rush as I was without a vehicle and needed something to commute to work. I bought a new car after realizing how bad the used car market was.
I have always wanted to own a classic car and while casually browsing, I came across a beautiful 1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce with a 5 Speed Manual. It is sold by a local dealer specializing in classic cars in the DFW area for $9k before taxes. The listed mileage is about 138k miles and has been listed as unknown.
Is it worth making a switch? What are the things I need to look out for if I do decide to make the switch just for the sheer love for the vehicle?
Thank you.
Is it worth making a switch?
I would definitely make the switch out of that Hyundai, but not to a 34+ year old high mileage Italian vehicle.
Thank you so much for your response. What according to you would be considered as a good switch if I were to make a switch to a classic vehicle (something between 80's and 90's)? 🙂
None, if you intend to use it for a daily driver.

Buying a car with a Hyundai-Kia iVT transmission is a mistake.
The only Elantra worth considering is the hybrid, it gets phenomenal gas millage, if you can put up with the 43hp EV motor
Anyhow, I'd dump it.

Switching to an 80s Italian sports car???
Realize these are unreliable and no one knows how to fix them - this is literally the opposite of "solid" or "reliable"
The last car you should consider for a daily - maybe as a weekends car if you'd have a truck to tow it...
IF you want an Italian sports car, get a FIAT/ABART 124 SPYDER - it's a Miata with a worse engine and a turbo.
notably it's named after the Fiat 124 - the basis for, and practically identical to, the Lada 2101 (Zhiguli Kopeyka)
Just don't overpay because, again, it's a slightly worse Miata, and unlike the Miata I don't think it has resale value.

If you're looking for reliability, maintainability and the car actually being useful,
Classic cars aren't what you want.
All of these are not bad cars, not too exciting but somewhat cool in their own right - mainly usable as a daily.
Consider buying a "classic" in ADDITION to what you have - cause then you can get existing things.
