Wondering if this would make a good vehicle to use for the post office? My route is in northern Ohio out in the country. Winters are miles of seldom shoveled rural roads. The SUV is being bought from a dealer.

Sounds like a scam to me. Your talking about a 95 with 60k miles I flat out don't believe that at all that Rav4 is old enough to die for its country and has 2x less the miles than my 07 has and my car has sat for a while without being driven which is not good at all unless the car was properly winterized and I doubt that for this 95. And even if it did have 60k miles that means the only way is was properly maintained was if was own by a grandma and she only drove it to church on sunday. and I would shudder to think what they're trying to charge at a dealership. Wait... post office? Is this just for delivering the mail? or is this also going to be a car you drive normally and no mail trucks huh. That sucks you have to drive your own car for that. I mean car maintenance isn't cheap no matter what you buy. hmmm I really think your better buying something else and especially if it's not just to deliver the mail but also to get food and drive to places other than mailboxes. You can definitely find something newer that would last longer no question.

Thank you for the response! This vehicle is strictly for work. Have a Honda Civic for regular driving. The RAV4 is an import from Japan. The two dealerships I'm considering is Duncan Imports and Japan Direct Motors. My budget is $12,000 and seeking a Right Hand Drive RHD vehicle. Considering between the '95 Honda CR-V and '95 Toyota RAV4.

Please do yourself a favor and do not buy anything from a dealer, ever. They are professional liars.

Yes they are. One dealer has a bunch of cars on their site, then call me back, and say "Sorry, it has been spoken for" on 3 different SUVs I was looking into. Then point at some clunker and say "it's amazing, greatest for mailman. Pure price purchase" etc. I'm not taking a Toyota Estima down a dirt road in the winter.

.

I would look elsewhere if possible, but Right Hand Drive vehicles aren't lying around the corner. There isn't any one source people recommend. Some Rural Carriers say to buy from other Carriers while others are dead against it. It's a lot of back-and-forth between Yes/No on anything. Not interested in getting a kit for my car, would rather have a stand-alone RHD for work.

.

Best I can do is select a vehicle, and have a local, independent mechanic inspect it to say "yay or nay" before buying and driving 5 states away. JackofManyThings says low mileage is a red flag on older cars, and that makes sense. Dry rot and the lot.

.

For importing cars from Japan, I learned the US has laws against having anything newer than 25 years, or risk impoundment if it doesn't clear all their bajillion marks before clearance.

.

So at this point, I wanna know if a 80-year-old, 1995 Toyota RAV4 or 1995 Honda CR-V would be better for USPS Rural Carrier use in the country roads. Winter roads included also to consider.
