Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Banging Noise When Slowing Down

Good afternoon, everyone. I have a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 2016 with 185,000 miles. When I slow down the car with my brake pedal, there is a rumbling noise coming from the bottom of the car. I don't know if it's in relation to the ATF that I changed for it two weeks ago. This was the first time changing the transmission fluid. Does this rumbling noise relate to the transmission or the braking system?

Thanks

What should rumble on a braking system?

Does the car brake and slow down/stop as it used to do as everything was fine?

Is the rumbling present when you brake descending a hill, with running engine but the tranny in neutral?

You did not save the old tranny fluid (the brown goo that came out before you put ATF in) I expect?

Yes, I did have a look at the old fluid. It had the colour of coca-cola. As for the braking system, I don't know about that but the rumbling happens all the time.

The car uses a regenerative braking system to charge the battery. It's essential the transmission and brakes work in unison for this to work correctly. I would have the brakes looked at as soon as possible.

Hello again, everyone. I spoke with my local mechanic and he said that it's the CV joints and arm bushes which have worn out. Makes sense for a car that's done over 185,000 miles in city streets!

Very interesting. It's crazy how it coincided with the fluid exchange just by happenstance.

I'm curious, if you could share the pricing to replace CV joints and arm bushings.

Well, after a thorough investigation, it needs a new driveshaft. Will cost me £700 ($889).

Whoa, that is very interesting.
