Hello scotty I recently  Purchased a 2004 Ford Explorer 4.6 V8 4X4 with 160k miles. The transmission has acted up on me only once And it only slipped when shifting gears up shifting, I've never had problems with it slipping out of gear,  Ever since the problem happened it hasn't reoccurred Driving around town and getting off the highway iand the car's been running At full  Operating temperature It won't slip anymore.  But I'm still concerned about it because I feel like it's a problem that's just starting to occur in its not going away..  What should I do I have too much invested into the car and can't afford a replacement right now..  There is a company that sells upgraded servo kits for the  Transmission Could that fix my problem?

Do you have previous service history on trans? i.e. proper fluid/filter change?  If so, repeat.  If not, look for a good local trans mech and let them check it.  My concern is with that many miles, there's worn parts and just replacing servo's only may cause more issues.  And rebuilding a trans that isn't pretty much distroyed already is much cheaper.  This is the conversation I'd have with the trans mech.  What is you location?  May be able to recommend a good one. 5r55?

I would baby the car and would not strain the transmission to make the most out of it if you do not want to repair it. hate to say, but generally the explorer transmission lifetime is about the mileage you currently have.
